The cetane number of diesel fuel is a measure of its ‘ignition quality’. Minimum cetane number at the pump is 46. Adding DFL can raise this number up by several points. Increasing the cetane number comes with these important benefits.
The active cetane improver in DFL is 2-Ethylhexyl nitrate. When adding DFL to diesel fuel at the 1:500 ratio, the cetane may increase by 8-10 points (depending on fuel manufacturer).
